Online Prep Orders being delayed

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble with online prep orders being delayed? I have an order in with Nitro-Pak that was placed over 21 days ago which had Mountain House products in it and still no updates on the site in my order info and no response to a couple emails. Also I have in 2 seperate orders for Mountain House products from 2 different Amazon retailers from over 3 weeks ago and both of them are telling me that delays are causing orders to take up to 4 weeks to ship now.

This is just crazy to me. I am wondering if none of these 3 retailers actually have the product in stock to ship and if this is what is causing the delays. I can't get a straight answer from any of them on do you have it to ship or not.

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Anyone else getting frustrated at this?

Report to the nearest FEMA camp, fill out the necessary family rationing permit ( be sure you have certified copies of your childrens birthcertificates, immunization records, and your mortgage documents, or 6 months of rental receipts, and of course your passport (rfid transponder must be functional) just as soon as your paperwork is processed, you can have a temporary ration book for 3 days supply of food. that should tide you over until your paper work is processed, usually 60 to 90 days, and your citizen ration purchase permit will issue. Than of course you will be able to order all of the standard rations you will require. ( maximum of ten days for each household member of course, as the homeland security "land of plenty" regulations dictate).

Ok good chance this will be happening in the near future, but this doesn't answer my questions the least bit. If I wake up tomorrow and this is becoming a reality then I have a good amount of preps already but I want more. I will be busting out the hollow points and taking what I need to survive from the sheeple.

I've noticed the same thing. I have had backorders on quite a few things O2 absorbers, canned wheat, wheat grinder, etc. All of these things have come through in time so there just seems to have been an overload and now they're getting stocked back up for the most part.

As I compare prices online though its scary how many times I see "item unavailable" or "out of stock". Most recently I see this with sites selling Berkey filters, Ammo, canning supplies and of course LTS food.

I'm doing well on my preps but this just fuels my inner voice that keeps telling me "just a little more to be on the safe side." I better watch out or I'll end up like TN Andy.:D

Good thing, thanks to this great site, all of us here knew well in advance to stock up ahead of time. :-)
With disaster after disaster happening, this is becoming a global emergency prep crisis.

Try vitacost. I got mine in just a few days a few months back. Good prices too. They just carry a limited selection however.

Re: Online Prep Orders being delayed

Gangsta, there's been lots of talk about how the companies that can FD and dehydrated foods have been slammed by orders lately and are running behind on production and delivery. Some of the Mt. House vendors say they've been told by Mt House that Mt. House is going to stop selling the #10 cans until possibly sometime in the fall. There's rumors of a big government buy from some vendors, but others say that's BS, that it's just more people than usual buying from the few companies that produce the long-term storage foods, and that the companies are by and large small and not geared to meeting that level of demand. Because there's cost involved in gearing up to meet a larger demand, I imagine some of them are wondering whether to gear up or not, as it could be costly if the public gets used to oil prices and food costs and demand drops back to normal. I suspect Mt. House is putting its production efforts toward their pouches, as this is camping season, and they probably don't want to lose that market. At any rate, this same sort of thing happened to availability before Y2K and even after Katrina.

The public is clearly getting anxious and skittish, but it's nowhere near the level a major eye-opening crisis would cause. I mean, it's not like everyone I know is clamoring to buy long-term storage food! It's interesting to see just how much a little increase in demand gums up the works. Imagine if something happened that really frightened the public? Or there really was a big government contract for the stuff. There a good lesson in here about not procrastinating on preps! (I know, I'm preaching to the choir here!)

Okay now, how many of us ordered just a little more food, even though we felt pretty well set, because we got skittish when we heard about those "backordered" messages lining up? :D I have to confess I did the old, "You know, I should probably get one more can of...." That, and I splurged on a bunch of potato stick and pretzel MREs. Lol!

P.S. Gangsta, Honeyville has limited selections, but they're still sending orders out almost immediately. I just got an order in in less than a week.

On 3/31 I ordered sprouting seeds, beans, and wheat from Walton Feed thru their website, got an e-mail confirmation on 4/2, and have heard nothing since.

They haven't responded to 3 e-mail, requests, and their phone is constantly busy.

If they're in trouble it'd be nice if they could tell me so, instead of leaving me hanging.

Judoka, even in the best of times, Walton Feed is slow in filling orders. Six to eight weeks isn't unusual. Given the backorders everywhere, they're probably even slower than usual. I wouldn't start worrying yet.

Walton's has the widest variety of items, but the worst customer service of any vendor I have used.

They shorted me the most expensive item I ordered and never made good.

Maddie 05-25-2008 07:21 AM

Re: Online Prep Orders being delayed

I've never been shorted an item, but I have had a couple of orders in which they sent the wrong items. I was particularly annoyed the last time because they sent me a #10 can of sugar, which I didn't need and and which was more expensive to ship than what I'd actually ordered.

Still, they do have the best selection out there, and they seem to have foods no one else carries.

I'm waiting 4-6 weeks for a Berkey water dispenser and black filters. All my eggs and butter in #10 cans from Emergency essentials is on BO. Get it now while you can. All is takes is some soccer mom reading circle to catch wind of all this and the vendors will be out pretty quick. Not to mention hurricane season is coming up.

Their web site is so lame, and hard to navigate.

On the Vitacost subject, I've had good service from them, but last week they started listing Mountain house cans to be shipped on June 2. I had already placed to order when I noticed that note, but the next day I got an email saying the order was shipped. It was supposed to get here Friday, but UPS tracking said bad weather in Houston caused a delay till Monday. Weather in Houston was not that bad last Thursday. Vitacost has the cheapest prices on MH I've found.
On Honeyville grains, I ordered powdered eggs, only to find out their cans weigh 3/4 lb less than some other brands at the same price. Something to watch out for. See these guys and compare.

I know mainstream TV channels have been working on a prepping survival show since 2006 about city people moving off the grid and learning to homestead. What dose this tell you? Its all planned, they knew about it before it happened and planned their TV shows to reflect it.

Freeze dried and such is great, but my $$ went further with bulk items available locally. Bulk dry, restaurant sized cans, etc... I bought a foodsaver cannister set for dealing with opening these huge 100 ounce cans. Pop the can, use what you need, and vacuum seal the rest to use as you're able (we're a family of 6 so food goes quick). Although great, there is little need to rely on "emergency prep food" exclusively.

Just go to the store.

If you rotate within a few years then there's little need for a 30 year shelf life.

All JMO.

Good news. I called emergency essentials to see how long shipments are taking since everything is back ordered. She said about 3 weeks. They are constantly getting shippments in, but they ship out before they build up enough to mark them in stock.

I ordered a case of canned butter and a case of canned cheese from Survival Center on May 24. Yesterday, only 4 days later, I received an email from UPS Quantum View saying they had received an order to ship my product. No delays there! But they are working hard. I called their customer service department last night at 7:15 Pacific time and a human being answered their phone. She said they're putting in long hours and have been very busy.

I just got my 4 cases of wheat from LDS. Boxes arrived in good shape. These came Fed Ex and I finally got the nosey deliveryman. Had a good streak up til now. Anyway this guy was too much. Told me how the boxes were so heavy and asked me where my husband is for jobs like this. I answered with another question. He asked me what kind of business I'm in. Finally, I told him he sure was awfully curious. He backed off and I mumbled something about baking lots of homemade bread- don't know what he thought, but I hate it when they don't just drop off the damn boxes and leave.

Back in my younger days I had no issues telling the delivery man that he was sticking his nose in business that wasn't his. A simple, frank, "I don't see how that is really any of your business" usually shut them up and sent them packing.

In my calmer current years I apparently put off a don't as don't tell aura or something, they just don't bother me about it anymore. If they did I'd probably tell them I was working on winning a contest. If they asked further I'd tell them I'm not telling anyone because I don't want to decrease my chances of winning the contest.

I have had recent orders backordered from 3 different suppliers. One of them is 2 1/2 months old so i called MH directly and they indicated that yes they have my order from that particular vendor on file and that it will be another month or so before they can ship it to me. on One order last week from Emerg Essentials, I only selected items listed as in stock and 1/2 of that order arrived yesterday with the rest of it BO. The new catelog they included has higher prices for the same stuff than when I ordered from their website last week!!
Prices are going up too !!

I always say it's for a hunting camp or a Boy Scout camp-out or something. I haven't had a problem with the food orders, but the mail carriers have always been full of questions about the PMs from Apmex. I told them I resell them on eBay when the price goes up. I don't like lying, but I'll be darned if I want them knowing I keep stuff like this around my house.

Just an update: I placed a large order of Mountain House FD foods (& other various preps) exactly 1 week ago from TheReadyStore.com & just recieved everything today. Not bad! I figured I was in for a long wait after reading this thread & this note from them:

"Please note: While we carry a large inventory of freeze-dried food, because of rapidly increasing demand and international food shortages, please anticipate a 3 to 6 week ship time on most freeze-dried food products. Virtually every supplier is back ordered on these items, so you won't get it sooner anywhere else. Your credit card will not be charged until time of shipment. Thank you for your patience! "

Maybe they are starting to catch up on these orders? In any case, I'm a happy camper!

Well it looked like a trick on my Nitro-Pak order being fully fulfilled and shipped. Only half of my Mountain House #10 cans were in the box even though I was charged for everything up front. My invoice shows the cans that are backordered as BO but nothing on the website in my history. I sent them an email with a WTF why was I not told by email and why was I charged for everything.

My last 150 case lot of Mountain House arrived this week along with a few strays from other orders. It would appear that we have to wait until October or November to make new MH orders. Meanwhile I am adding more ammo to the stash and putting supplies in at both cabins. Also getting an early renewal on my CCW before Barak occupies the White House and the whips start cracking. GLTA
